Very cool. Now all they need is a wind-up action toy version of this.

  I want this shirt

A very cool list. I especially agree with getting the Maxx and Downtown on DVD. I would also add the Centurions to this list, as it was one of the only kid cartoon shows that featured science segments at the end of each episode:

Topless Robot - 10 Awesome But Obscure Cartoons that Desperately Need to be on DVD

Most of our treasured childhood cartoons were awful. Some people refuse to admit this. Youâ..ll see these people commenting on YouTube videos of Bravestarr or My Little Pony Tales or Tom and Jerry Kids, proclaiming them to be â..awes0me!!!â. and asking why the hell they donâ..t make good cartoons like this anymore. These people are insane.

There are, of course, genuinely good cartoons from our youth, and most of them are available on DVD at our local consumerist outlets. Yet a few series are left foundering in obscurity or in the hands of bootleggers whoâ..ll charge $80 for a season of M.A.S.K. Below, weâ..ve profiled ten cartoon series of our youth (a lot of them involving the word â..Mightyâ.) that should be preserved in DVD box sets so we donâ..t have to rely on grainy YouTube and Google Video encodes. And no, M.A.S.K. isnâ..t one of them. Have you watched M.A.S.K. lately? Itâ..s crap.

Sweeet! Seriously though, how hard would it have been to integrate a cell phone into this doo-hickey?

Toys: Star Trek Communicator Replica Coming Soon, Sadly Doesn't Communicate

This "life-size" Star Trek Communicator is a dream for every budding Kirk out there, sounding like the real thing when you flip it open, and with nine different voice phrases from the TV series built in. So okay, you can't actually contact anyone with it, but who needs that when you can pretend with "Spock here, Captain" or speak to the Enterprise with "Bridge, this is the captain?" Just don't be wearing a red suit. Available in March for $29.99

  Several Geeky T-shirts

These are pretty geeky. I've seen better.

But this one's awesome:

Topless Robot - The 20 Most Awesome but Tremendously Geeky T-shirts

Everyone knows the juvenile alternate lyrics to the already fairly juvenile â..Jingle Bells,â. wherein the Batmobile suddenly finds its tires decreased by 25% and the Joker makes a timely escape. But for an artist to take the time to illustrate a sad, detailed picture of that tragic winterâ..s night is the epitome of geekiness. To wear it is to say that youâ..re a fan of Batman OR a fan of nontraditional Christmas carolsâ..either way, you subscribe to a newsletter, and are a geek.

  Puppy vs Robot

Awww. Cute. And the puppy's kind of cute too.

Huh. I always thought the Biggs action figure looked a little like Omar Santiago (Terry Oâ..Quinn).

Topless Robot - The 10 Star Wars Toys that Unintentionally Look Like Other Celebrities

In its early years, the Star Wars line suffered from a lot of terrible likenesses, and while we couldnâ..t find any that looked like Cary Elwes (although there were too many who looked like Corey Feldman to count), we did find ten figures that were the spitting images of actors they were absolutely, positively not intended to resemble

  Steampunk Justice League

Very very cool. There's also a revisioned Star Wars collection.

SILLOF's WORKSHOP: Gaslight Justice League Custom Figures

justice_league_gaslight.jpg

Inspired by the comic book, Gotham by Gaslight by Mike Mignola and Brian Augustyn. Set in 1880's , Batman attempts to stop Jack the Ripper, who has come to Gotham.

I attempted to re-design the famous members of the Justice League in the Victorian Era. I went for a darker look & tried to give them the right period feel, but also keep the feel of the original character.

There you go. Protest the CanDMCA bill on Dec. 18th outside Queen's Park.

Tech Bytes: Copyright reform stokes the fires

The anger over the government's proposed copyright reform bill is palpable and it is astounding that it's something normally staid Canadians are getting worked up about.

Just take a look at the growth of a Facebook protest group (I'd link to it but you need to log in) started just over a week ago - when I checked this morning, it had just under 15,000 members. As of this writing, it's up past 16,000. In fact, 50 people have joined in the 15 minutes it took me to write this post. That's incredible and, if the group keeps growing at this pace, it's going to be very difficult for the government to introduce the bill it had planned.

Some group members are even planning to attend a protest outside Queen's Park in Toronto on December 18. So far the protest seems to be a very small grassroots movement with only about a dozen or so confirmed attendees, but you never know - if public anger is really as strong as it appears, the protest could easily snowball into something major.

  Big Swiss-Army Knife

Yup, the kind of knife MacGyver would have.

ThinkGeek :: Giant Swiss Army Knife

This unique special edition knife contains all 85 tools currently produced by Wenger (Maker of the Genuine Swiss Army Knife). These 85 tools can be used in over 100 functions and it's the World's Largest Swiss Army Knife. It's not exactly going to win any awards for lightest, smallest or most efficient tool but it probably will win you the title "King of All Gadgets". And even though this knife is a monster, weighing almost 3 pounds, don't worry - it does have a key ring so you can carry it on a belt loop.

  Cthulhu for Kids

A terrific kid's book in the same vein as Edward Gorey's, The Gashlycrumb Tinies.

Baby's First Mythos

Spawned from the mind of horror king and Origins award winner, C.J. Henderson, ("The Things That Are Not There," "Tales of Inspector Legrasse") this book is a fun-filled must for every Lovecraftian everywhere. Lavishly illustrated with dozens of all new, highly detailed pieces by Erica Henderson, this is one of those rare instant classics that everyone is simply going to have to have on their shelf.   First Luxury SUV

Cool post from English Russia on what they're calling the first SUV. Normally, when I think of luxury SUVs, I think of the Infiniti FX:

modern_luxury_suv.jpg

But for older stuff, you probably think of the International Harvester's Scout (first built in 1961):

first_suv.jpg

Or more recently, the AMC Eagle, a 4x4 car/jeep/truck hybrid first built in 1979:

amc_car_suv_cross.jpg

But I can see where these guys all have a similar look.

English Russia - First SUV Ever

first_luxury_suv.jpg

Nowadays SUVâ..s are very popular all over the world, all major car makes started production of their own all-road luxury cars. The concept behind the SUV is to get comfort of the luxury car but have four wheel drive on big rims so that you can go off the road with the same feeling.

But it seems that in Soviet Russia they had already this ideal car - you can see here a luxury Soviet â..Pobedaâ. (â.Victoryâ.) car on the high wheels, and people say it is not a self-made thing but was in production in limited edition at the car factory, so it can be probably not only the first Russian SUV but first SUV ever.

  The Unsexiest Men of 2007

Some notable entries:

[91] BOB SAGET Tanner

Thereâ..s nothing sadder than a comedian who gets more laughs as a punchline than he does as a stand-up. But when Saget went Rambo and started telling gross-out jokes to play off the shame of having raised the Olsen twins, he crossed the line from pathetic bottom-feeder to slimy douchebag.

[56] KIM JONG-IL
Dear leader

Though this deranged North Korean demigod has a certain cherubic look â.. he could almost pass for a beatific Macyâ..s Thanksgiving Day float â.. heâ..s rumored to be quite the porno connoisseur, as well as a binge drinker and womanizer. Which makes us all feel so much safer about his nukes.

[28] DUSTIN "SCREECH" DIAMOND
Reality-porn star

Shockingly deviant, cretinous former child star who scammed fans by selling T-shirts to help him avoid foreclosure on his house â.. there were no such proceedings against him â.. and who starred in a repulsive sex tape, Saved by the Smell, which featured him doing the Dirty Sanchez.

[18] MEL GIBSON
Reality-porn star

Hateful director with massive alcohol problem.

[8] PEREZ HILTON
Bloggist

Exponentially overhyped gossip blogger whose sense of entitlement far outweighs his actual contribution to society. And, oh yeah, heâ..s gross, too.

But for heroin, amphetamines and E, Canada's near or under the international average.

Canada tokes at 4 times world average: UN

Canadians use marijuana at four times the world average, making Canada the leader of the industrialized world in cannabis consumption, a recent United Nations report found.

The 2007 World Drug Report by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime says that 16.8 per cent of Canadians aged 15 to 64 smoked marijuana or used another cannabis product in 2006. The world average is 3.8 per cent.

In the report, Canada ranks fifth in the world for marijuana use, behind Ghana at 21.5 per cent, Zambia, 17.7 per cent, and Papua New Guinea and Micronesia with 29 per cent each.

Heh. I like the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme.

stereogum: Score The Sopranos Finale With Any MP3

We know you're sick of a lot of things right now, maybe none more than the finale of the Sopranos, but we have to do this. What started as an e-mail chain about indie anthems that would have been superior to "Don't Stop Believin'" turned into some slapdash nerdery, building a script for testing out different songs -- paste a URL, hit submit, watch, argue. A few minutes later, work ground to a halt and we all ended up watching Carmela walk into the diner about sixty times, sometimes with funky old Children's Television Workshop songs or really filthy zydeco. So, while you contemplate the imminent return of Journey (Jeff Scott Soto's out, it's apparently news that Steve Perry wanted to know how the song would be used, etc) and gauge the viability of referencing BASEketball or the Journey Atari game if this ever comes up in conversation again, we give you the power to be Chase for a Day and score the end of The Sopranos as you see fit. Share your soundtracking successes in the comments.
