  Brolin to play Jonah Hex?

Sure. Sounds great. I can totally see Brolin as Hex.

But if I see one giant mechanical spider, there will be blood.

Hex for Josh Brolin? (Thatâ..s Jonah Hex)

Earlier today, Hollywood Elsewhere posted news that Josh Brolin was in talks to play Jonah Hex in an adaptation of the DC Comic. Tonight, Variety reports that itâ..s close to a done deal.

Jonah Hex is a gunslinger and â..part-time bounty hunter.â. Heâ..s notable for his disfigured face and partiality for Confederate uniforms. Hex first appeared in the 1970s in the All-Star Westerns series before winning a solo gig. The character has been through several relaunches, most recently in 2005. Crank writers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor wrote the script and are directing.

A low-budget right-wing pro-war comedy? Wow, sounds like what I've been looking for in a film. No wait, what's the opposite of that?

It's really bad when Variety (the industry trade magazine) pans your movie. These are the guys who should be pandering to film makers because without a film industry, there's no film industry press.

You know it's especially bad when they suggest you go watch Team America. I think this is a good suggestion, despite Parker and Stone's right-leaning politics.

An American Carol Review - Read Variety's Analysis Of The Movie An American Carol

Poorly made indie production has a script that feels like a list of ripostes collected over the last several years to liberal criticisms of the U.S.: The whole enterprise feels far more agenda- than entertainment-driven. Talkradio and grassroots marketing have been trying to rally the B.O. troops, but the picâ..s opening-weekend take of $3.8 million shows that the target audience is more likely to check this out when it takes over Wal-Mart shelves. Those with a real craving for hilariously potent anti-left propaganda will have to go back for another toke of â..Team America: World Police.â.

Aside from Blade Runner, how about a list of films least likely to require sequels?

â..Blade Runner 2â.. Script On Way

Blade Runner is one of the best films of the twentieth century, and an iconic take on a dystopian society. So how do you fancy a sequel? If youâ of the same mind as me, you would have immediately shouted â..NOOOOOOOOOO!â. at the top of your voice. If not, then you need to be taken out the back and shot like a lame dog.

Luckily, a sequel isnâ..t being planned, at least in any official capacity, but according to Slashfilm, a screenplay is currently being written by Travis Wright, the man behind the current box office topping Eagle Eye.

H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon | The only festival that understands.

October 3-4-5, 2008 - Hollywood Theatre, Portland Oregon

The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival promotes the works of H.P. Lovecraft, literary horror, and weird tales through the cinematic adaptations by professional and amateur filmmakers. The festival was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore in the hope that H.P. Lovecraft would be rightly recognized as a master of gothic horror and his work more faithfully adapted to film and television.

What if we used some of James Earl Jones' other performances for Darth Vader's lines? Hilarity ensues, along with a very different version of Star Wars. A better one, I think.

As a bonus, get to hear David Prowse's original Vader voice. One of Lucas's best decisions with Star Wars was to dub over him.

Free download of new doc 'a gift to my fans,' Moore says

Oscar-winning documentarian Michael Moore has posted his latest feature-length film, Slacker Uprising, for free download by U.S. and Canadian viewers.

The controversial American filmmaker â.. whose films have explored his country's health-care system, its gun industry, large corporations and his opposition to the Iraq war â.. said the gesture was made "entirely as a gift to my fans."

Slacker Uprising chronicles the director's tour of U.S. swing states during the 2004 presidential election campaign in an attempt to get young Americans to vote.

From Topless Robot. I like that they got this guy into the list. From Canadian animation company, Nelvana, back in their coke-party, throw-money-at-it heyday:

5) Mok Swagger, Rock & Rule

Rock & Rule would be a much worse film if its evil rock star wasnâ..t Mok Swagger, a delightful bastard embodying both faded â..70s opulence and music-industry corruption. As any glimpse of him might tell, heâ..s Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Iggy Pop in creepy, anthropomorphized cartoon villain form. But heâ..s mostly Jagger-ish, and a cease-and-desist from the Rolling Stones frontmanâ..s lawyers ensured that Mokâ..s last name is never said in the movie. That doesnâ..t stop him from being a potentially fascinating bad guy: a rock star so powerful, so utterly without morals, and so afraid of losing it all that heâ..s turned to making pacts with Hell for personal amusement. His songs are also provided by Lou Reed, whose Metal Machine Music made him the closest the real music industry ever came to a super-villain.

Stephen Chow to Direct, Star as Kato in The Green Hornet with Seth Rogen! | /Film

Key words: â..â.¦and direct.â. Weâ known for more than a year that Seth Rogen wanted Stephen Chow to co-star as Kato in The Green Hornet, a role previously made famous by Bruce Lee, and today the casting was confirmed. Whatâ..s surprising is that Chow, whoâ..s had considerable international success as a director with Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle and CJ7, will also helm the feature from a script by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, marking his American debut.

  It's the Vaders

This would have made an interesting subplot.

Mr. & Mrs. Darth Vader - Featured Picture on BuzzFeed

Interesting closure to the classic but cancelled series of my youth.

From Wikipedia:

Filmed August 29, 1999 "Message From Moonbase Alpha" was first shown at Space: 1999 Breakway Convention in Los Angeles, California on September 13, 1999 -- the day the events in episode 1 of the series were supposed to take place. "Message From Moonbase Alpha" is on the "SPACE: 1999 Bonus Disk" which is available in the US, Canada. "Message From Moonbase Alpha" is also available on a DVD bonus disc in France and in Italy. It is also on the UFO Space:1999 documentaries DVD produced by Fanderson.

The seven minute clip features only Zienia Merton reprising her role as Sandra Benes delivering a final message to Earth as the only crew member left while a massive exodus to a habitable planet takes place with the rest of the crew. This basically gave the series the finality it never had in its initial run.

Sam Raimi Approves 3D Evil Dead The Musical: The Movie | /Film

According to Screen Daily, Raimi has given the okay for a 3D theatrical movie based on Evil Dead: The Musical, to be co-directed by the musicalâ..s original director, Christopher Bond, and choreographer, Hinton Battle. Bond would like to begin filming next spring with members of the original cast, though the filmmakers will need to address â..serious rights issues.â.

It's the first I've heard of this. We'll miss you, Don.

The man did over 5000 movie trailers.

Notice how I borrowed a little technique from Fox News there? Say something negative (and possibly untrue), then add a question mark on the end.

Disaster Movie Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes

In Disaster Movie, the filmmaking team behind the hits Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet The Spartans this time puts its unique, inimitable stamp on one of the biggest and most bloated movie genres of all time --the disaster film. Disaster Movie follows the comic misadventures...

  Star Trek does Dallas

A very difficult quiz, especially when you consider films can have more than one kind of poster, and more than one kind of font.

I was only able to get 17 of these. And I cheated.

  Awesome Star Wars film

No, not that terrible Clone Wars movie. This one was done by a guy from Windsor; episode VII of Star Wars, wherein a little Sith boy sets out to kill his gifted sister.

More pathos, better writing, and (strangely) better acting than in the first three prequels. It's the cutest little Star Wars spoof I've ever seen. Also, just a little more tragic than Revenge of the Sith.

The Clever Sheep: Last, but not Least

As a teacher in Windsor, Ontario, my brother Mark (brother number 4 by birth order), has always found ways to engage the power of media tools in the classroom. Whether leading his class to create unique 'graduation presentations', 'music videos', or 'schoolwide multimedia screenings', he has always sought to employ the most powerful apps available. One of the ways he builds upon his repertoire of rich projects, is to complete special assignments on his own.

Filmed using his children in lead roles, and edited on his Mac, Star Wars VII may be destined for cult status once the YouTube fans find it...

  Watchmen movie in danger

... thanks to 20th Century Fox's lawsuit against Warner Bros. They allegedly own the rights to distribution of any Watchmen films.

Nikki Finkeâ..s Deadline Hollywood Daily - SAVE US! Warnerâ..s â..Watchmenâ.. In Legal Peril After Judge Wonâ..t Dismiss Fox Suit

Warner Bros officially gave the usual "it is our companyâ..s policy not to comment on pending litigation" statement, but added, "The Courtâ..s ruling simply means that the parties will engage in discovery and proceed with the litigation. The judge did not opine at all on the merits, other than to conclude that Fox satisfied the pleading requirements. We respectfully disagree with Fox's position and do not believe they have any rights in and to this project." But, privately, Warner Bros execs are decrying to me what they say is Fox's "opportunistic claim," noting that "Fox sat on its so-called rights for years while other studios in town developed this property. In fact, Paramount greenlit the movie for production and Fox never said a word! Fox even had an opportunity to re-acquire the project at some point and it passed on it!"

2oth Century Fox made this statement: "Warner Brothers' production and anticipated release of The Watchmen motion picture violates Twentieth Century Fox's long-standing motion picture rights in The Watchmen property. We will be asking the Court to enforce Fox's copyright interests in The Watchmen and enjoin the release of the Warner Brothers film and any related Watchmen media that violate our copyright interests in that property."

This is very cool news, indeed. After watching Lost in La Mancha back in 2002, I was sure that the world was conspiring against Gilliam making this film.

Terry Gilliam and Johnny Depp To Resurrect â..Don Quixoteâ..

During the year 2000, Terry Gilliam started filming The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, starring Johnny Depp. However, a spate of accidents and mishaps forced the movie to be abandoned, and the project has been dead ever since. However, rumours of a revival have surfaced recently, rumours that have now been confirmed by Gilliam himself.

He told The Independent:

â..As far as weâ concerned, itâ..s on. When Johnnyâ..s ready, weâ ready. Weâ just talking about dates to film. Basically it all depends on his schedule but otherwise weâ set. It will be next year some time, before next summer anyway.â.

Gilliam has recently won legal rights to the script, but despite this, he is planning on rewriting the whole thing from scratch.

â..Weâ going to completely reshoot it. The intervening years have taught me that I can actually write a much better film. Iâ..m so excited itâ..s going to get done at last.â.

Oh good, it looks like they're actually going to make Nite Owl fat. Not fat enough to look like a regular tech industry lackey, or cosplay fanboy, but it's at least a step in the right direction.
