  Nail in head

A man in America has cheated death after an accident with a nail gun left six nails embedded in his head.

Doctors at a hospital in Los Angeles feared that they would not be able to save the life of builder, Isidro Mejia.

Isidro was working on a building site in California when he fell from a roof and on to a co-worker who was using a nail gun.

The nail gun discharged, three nails penetrated Mejia's brain and one went into his spine below the base of his skull.

Another went through his face.

Imitation is flattering, says designer Giorgio Armani, who has a fake Armani watch to prove it.

Armani said he bought the watch for $22 US in Shanghai. "It was an identical copy of an Emporio Armani watch," he said at a news conference Monday. The real timepiece costs many times as much.

"I know I have some stores in China - Giorgio Armani, Armani Fiori, Emporio Armani - that have nothing to do with me," said the designer, who was in China over the weekend to announce the opening of a store on Shanghai's trendy Bund.

Armani said the imitations can cause "confusion" among consumers.

"On the other hand, it's flattering to be copied. If you are copied, you are doing the right thing," he said with a smile.

  Eyeball that Jewellery

Body piercing and tattoos make way -- the latest fashion trend to hit the Netherlands is eyeball jewellery.

Dutch eye surgeons have implanted tiny pieces of jewellery called "JewelEye" in the mucous membrane of the eyes of six women and one man in cosmetic surgery pioneered by an ophthalmic surgery research and development institute in Rotterdam.

The procedure involves inserting a 3.5 mm (0.13 inch) wide piece of specially developed jewellery -- the range includes a glittering half-moon or heart -- into the eye's mucous membrane under local anaesthetic at a cost of 500 to 1,000 euros (270 to 540 pounds).

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A woman imprisoned for faking her daughter's leukemia to gain thousands of dollars in donations said she concocted the scheme to keep her husband from leaving.

Teresa Milbrandt told the Columbus Dispatch for a story in Sunday's editions that she regrets what she did, which included shaving her daughter Hannah's head and giving her sleeping pills to make it look like she was undergoing chemotherapy. She also made Hannah wear a protective mask and put her in counselling to prepare for death.

"Last week, I said to someone, 'I wonder if I could pay the doctor and have him give me a lethal injection,' " she told the newspaper in an interview at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. "I can't hardly live in my own skin."

Milbrandt was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty last August to felony charges of endangering children, grand theft and theft.

Authorities said Milbrandt and her husband fooled 65 people and businesses in their hometown of Urbana into donating an estimated $31,000 US for Hannah's treatment.

Holiday travellers are being advised to forget the fruitcake as carry-on luggage if they want to avoid delays when boarding planes over the holiday season.

The head of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority said Tuesday about 500,000 prohibited items have been intercepted at Canada's 89 airports during the past six months.

Jacques Duchesneau said the public still isn't aware of what is allowed on board.

He said a lot of scissors and Swiss Army knives are still being confiscated along with toy guns, ice skates and flammable liquids in aerosol cans.

Duchesneau noted even fruitcakes will be X-rayed because they're dense and could hide a weapon.

China's largest city plans to hound people sticking up illegal flyers with new software that repeatedly calls numbers placed on the ads, an official newspaper reported Friday.

The computer phone harassment is the latest tactic in the battle to curb unsightly ads that festoon walls, lampposts, phone booths and virtually every other public surface in the city.

Numbers will be called every two hours over the first two days with a message ordering the person whose phone it is to appear to pay a fine and remove the ads, the Shanghai Daily said.

A woman soaked paper with methamphetamine, fashioned it to look like a greeting card and sent it to a federal jail inmate who then cut it into pieces for sale to other inmates, investigators said.

Kristina Landry, 23, of Everett, was arrested at her home, where authorities found a small amount of methamphetamine, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

The Donny & Marie Star Wars skit begins with footage of two Imperial star destroyers and the Millenium Falcon (actual film footage), spliced with cheap matte painting of planets (very non-Star Wars like). The scene fades and an opening crawl (as in the movies) begins:

  Darth Vader's Skeleton

Two New York teenagers have been accused of stealing a skeleton from a cemetery and taking it to a party dressed as the Star Wars villain Darth Vader.

Michael Herz, 18, and Michael Sossi, 17, allegedly took the body of an actor who died in 1938, and two skulls, from a crypt on Long Island in November.

"Herz dressed up the full body with glasses and then they put a Darth Vader mask on him," said detective Brian McMenemy.

The two teenagers, and a third youth accused of "receiving a stolen body", all deny the charges.

A Detroit police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg Monday when he tried to hide his gun after his car was pulled over by Canada Customs at the Ambassador Bridge.

Michael Allen, 22 and three friends were heading to Casino Windsor around 2:30 a.m. when a customs officer at the bridge directed the off-duty Detroit cop's Monte Carlo to the secondary inspection area.

After parking the car, Allen is believed to have pulled his .40-calibre Glock pistol from either a waist holster or concealed leg holster in an attempt to hide it under the car's front seat.

A holidaymaker narrowly escaped death when lightning struck her tongue stud in an electrical storm.

Becky Nyang, 26, was temporarily blinded, unable to talk and badly blistered by the bolt of electricity that surged through her body via the piercing.

CATPRIN, a tailor for cats. Ever imagined dressing up your lovely cat into a fabulous beauty? You don't have to dress her everyday, in fact she might not feel comfortable with a dress on for days. Just dress her up only on special occasions like her birthday, takes a photo and that should leave you lots of memories and fantasies.

  SARS Coffee Cats

Could drinking expensive coffee cause SARS? Apparently good coffee and SARS have a common thread ... the civet.

"Researchers from the University of Hong Kong examined 25 animals representing eight species in a live animal market in southern China and found the SARS virus in all six masked palm civets they sampled, as well as in a badger and a raccoon dog.

"Klaus Stohr, chief SARS virologist at the World Health Organization, said Friday it was impossible to tell from the study whether any of the animals spread the virus to humans or whether they caught the virus from people.

"The researchers said people could have been infected by the animals as they handled the animals while raising, slaughtering or cooking them. Eating fully cooked meat was probably safe, the researchers said.

"Civet cats are nocturnal animals related to the mongoose, with long tails and catlike bodies. They resemble small raccoons or weasels."

While not the exact same creature, it is very close in relation to the common palm civet, which is known for making the rarest coffee in the world:

"It all comes down to a marsupial called by several names . luwak, common palm civet and toddy cat or Paradoxurus hermaphroditus . which exists in rainforests from northern India to the Philippines.

"The luwak is considered a pest because it often climbs coffee trees and eats the coffee cherries. The cat is unable to digest them, so the beans pass through the cat's digestive system unscathed and into its droppings. Coffee plantations on three islands in Indonesia collect the beans from the feces."

OK, this is pretty weird. Anne Frank fanfiction. Really, these people should get a life.

  Cat Mutilator Captured

On March 8, 2003 at approximately 10pm the Find Matt Campaign received information that Matt had been arrested in Vancouver, British Columbia by police following a tip from an SPCA agent who had visited the campaigns website.

Started on April 2, 2002 the Find Matt Campaign had one goal - to aid police in the search for one of three young men who mutilated and killed a tame female house-cat, while capturing their actions on video.

(BEND, Ore.) You better hit the shower before you board the bus in Bend.

Proposed new city rules would ban spitting, defecating, smoking, skateboarding, and stinking on city buses.

The regulations ban anyone who "emanates a grossly repulsive odor that is unavoidable by other Bend Extended Area Transit customers" from being in the bus station or on a bus.

The ET Corn Gods Language is used to uncover hidden meanings in words of the English Language. The language has a logic/mathematical twist to it. The number 66 is the base of the math used. There are [five primary tables ] used to convert normal words into families of hidden meanings. Those five tables are: 1) Alphabet converted to numbers; 2) Roman Numerals; 3) Numbers converted to the base 66; 4) the Table of Contents for the 66 books of the Bible; and 5) the Periodic Table of the Elements.

The funny part of this is: the guy who runs this site actually called into our Tech Support line, asking if we could help troubleshoot his "vb-6 app which ftp's files to and from a server". We don't sell/support "vb-6", so I wonder why he sent to us anyway.

Look what this guy's patenting:

A method for inducing cats to exercise consists of directing a beam of invisible light produced by a hand-held laser apparatus onto the floor or wall or other opaque surface in the vicinity of the cat, then moving the laser so as to cause the bright pattern of light to move in an irregular way fascinating to cats, and to any other animal with a chase instinct.

As Green called police on his cell phone, the naked man tried to get in his van, but Green locked the doors. Harvey then "tried to have sex with the front of the van," Green said.   Yatta. Pray for death.

While we're on the topic of surreal Shockwave films, here's the famous Yatta animation. Yatta. I've heard of it, don't understand it, and pray for death when I'm exposed to it. This was actually some kind of Japanese "boy band" singing a song, and this guy went and ruined it. One thing I don't quite get is, what's with all the Canadian pop-culture icons?
